But believe it or not, we’ve been involved in the energy sector since the 1960s, when we helped deliver the iconic Snowy Mountains Scheme.



Today, you’ll find our teams in Far North Queensland helping to deliver the world-first Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro project.



This project is converting a disused gold mine to a pumped storage hydro-electric power generation facility.



With an expected boom in renewable energy projects in the coming decade, we’re incredibly excited to leverage our skills and capabilities across the sector.

♻️ 96% of our construction waste is being recycled and 91% of earth material is being diverted from landfill at our complex M7-M12 Integration Project!

The progress we're making at this project in western Sydney includes:

🌉 49 bridges to be built are under construction
🏗️ Piling and formwork have started to support the widening

of the existing 41 M7 Motorway bridges and seven new bridges
🚧 Earthworks, utility relocations and temporary pavements

are underway within the M7 Motorway median

🛣️ Retaining walls are continuing along the new realigned

🍝 A: You bet! Especially with marshmallows on top!

Our Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre team joined forces with the team from @sydneywater recently to help students from Bonnyrigg High School to learn about what a career in construction might look like.

The team members enjoyed going back to school for the day, to talk all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) which included experimenting with making simple water filters and building the tallest spaghetti tower.

With our team members discussing their own careers in Engineering, Human Resources, Safety, Governance, Sustainability, Environment and Community Relations, many students were surprised by the variety in the roles within the construction industry.

We can only hope to see some of these young faces building the spaghetti towers of the future!

For 75 years we’ve been challenging the norms and thinking outside the box.


🛤️ It’s this thinking that has seen us help to transform communities through the delivery of level crossing removals across Australia.


Back in 2007 as part of the Middleborough Road Alliance, we did something that had never been achieved. The removal of the level crossing at Middleborough Road in Melbourne’s east was completed in a compressed timeframe in January 2007 - thought to be a world-first at the time.


After that, we went on to deliver the Springvale Road level crossing at Nunawading over a five-week shutdown.


We’ve been a part of removing many level crossings around Australia including major highway separations in the Hunter Valley. To this day, we continue to deliver level crossing removal projects to improve safety and reduced congestion – with more to come.

@johnhollandgroup has been heavily involved in many packages of work on Sydney Metro - Australia's first driverless metro network.

As well as designing and constructing Sydney Metro Northwest we also delivered key parts of the City extension including tunnelling under the harbour, excavating station boxes, building Waterloo integrated station development, remodelling Sydenham Station and operating the driverless trains!

Ash and Euge know a fair bit about building relationships.

Almost 20 years ago they both joined @johnholland very early in their careers, Ash as an apprentice carpenter – following his Dad into the company - and Euge as an undergrad engineer.

Fast forward to today and they're both working on the Waterloo Collective - Euge is the Project Manager and Ash the Site Manager of this project that is delivering a mix of much-needed social, student and residential housing as well as open space around the new Waterloo Sydney Metro Station with Joint Venture partner Mirvac.


With Community at the heart of the work being undertaken in Waterloo from the start, Euge says in a project like this, it’s critical to bring everyone along for the journey.


“We’ve both been at John Holland for around half our lives now and we’ve worked on everything from residential towers to football stadiums. For us, it’s all about trust, we trust each other and our teams, and we build trust in the communities we work in.


“Waterloo’s history goes back to the early 1800s and it’s been amazing to see the transformation take shape, from the incredible amenities of the new Waterloo Station to the work we’re currently doing around to deliver social and student housing. We’re really proud of the team works together every day to help shape the future of this neighbourhood.”

🛣️ When it comes to building the roads that connect our communities or help us travel through our growing capital cities, John Holland has the runs on the board - or should we say - the tyres on the bitumen to deliver smart, sustainable solutions.

During the last 75 years we've delivered complex, city-shaping roads and major transport highways servicing regional communities that help the nation get safely to work or home or to visit loved ones.

From underground motorways that minimise disruptions to streetscapes and provide new open public spaces like WestConnex in Sydney's Rozelle, to complex interchanges that reduce congestion and link destinations like EastLink in Melbourne, our road projects carry hundreds of thousands of vehicles every day.

Our Edmonton to Gordonvale road upgrade in Far North Queensland has significantly improved safety and reduced congestion on one of Australia's major transport routes and at the same time, set new benchmarks for sustainability.

Our M7-M12 Integration Project is an integral piece of the future development of Western Sydney which, once complete, will provide direct access to commercial and residential hubs and the new Western Sydney International Airport.

And soon, we'll be starting work on the Torrens to Darlington road and tunnel project in South Australia where we'll deliver twin three-lane tunnels and almost 80km of traffic light-free motorway to increase access to Adelaide's airport, CBD and western suburbs.

We're proud of the legacy we're leaving in connecting communities with accessible, sustainable and safe roads and look forward to helping to keep Australians moving for the next 75 years!
