🎉 Celebrating sustainability excellence in infrastructure delivery 🌿
The current upgrade works at Sydney Water’s Riverstone and Rouse Hill water resource recovery facilities are proof that sustainability and infrastructure excellence go hand in hand.
Our North West Hub Alliance (NWHA) team has presented AquaOptions and Boral with the Sustainable Supply Chain Excellence Award, accompanied by a beautifully curated hamper from Indigenous business Kakadu Plum Co.
These awards highlight the power of early engagement, innovation, and collaboration in driving meaningful environmental outcomes.
From the tender phase, AquaOptions demonstrated a proactive commitment to sustainability. By collaborating with the NWHA sustainability team, AquaOptions integrated low-emission practices into their delivery model, including the use of over 7,000L of biodiesel B20 (~40% of total fuels used) to power construction machinery. This initiative not only reduced carbon emissions but also championed cleaner construction practices across our sites.
Tasked with delivering concrete mixes containing a minimum of 40% Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM), Boral went above and beyond, achieving mixes with over 50% SCM. By incorporating slag and fly ash, Boral significantly reduced embodied carbon in our concrete structures while advancing circular economy principles through the reuse of industrial by-products.
These initiatives reflect the Alliance's shared commitment to sustainable procurement and long term infrastructure sustainability.
Thank you, AquaOptions and Boral, for your leadership and unwavering commitment to sustainability. Your efforts set a new benchmark for environmental leadership in infrastructure delivery and inspire us all to aim higher.
