Demolishing a bridge and installing the backbone of its replacement in a single rail possession is no small feat, but that's exactly what our Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 (B2A T2) team accomplished during a critical rail possession.

The operation began with the controlled demolition of the old Marchbanks Road bridge in Broadford, using specialised equipment to carefully break the structure down into manageable sections for removal and recycling.

More than 3,480 tonnes of material were removed from site before the team began installing the new bridge.

A 650-tonne Demag lattice boom crawler crane was used to lift four 150-tonne girders into position, with John Holland's specialist Lift and Shift team working alongside the delivery team to plan and execute these complex lifts.

Together weighing 600 tonnes and stretching 68 metres in length, they're the largest girders installed on the project and will form the backbone of Victoria's final Inland Rail bridge, helping create the clearance needed for future double-stacked freight trains.

Behind the possession was a true team effort. Our Rail and Infrastructure teams worked together to deliver this critical stage of works on schedule, drawing on our in-house rail services and plant teams to deliver the works on the ground with certainty.

Another level crossing in Victoria is gone for good – two years ahead of schedule! 🚧

Our North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) team has delivered the new Webster St underpass in Dandenong for our client @levelcrossings, replacing another dangerous and congested level crossing in Melbourne’s southeast.

With a clearance of 5.4m under the rail bridge, the new underpass will help move trucks and heavy vehicles off local streets and out of Dandenong's CBD.

Behind the new underpass was a technically complex program of works, which included relocating one of Melbourne's largest gas supply pipelines and excavating 13 Olympic swimming pools worth of soil to build the new connection.

The team also built a new walking and cycling path along Webster Street that connects to the existing Dandenong Trail and provides safer pedestrian and cycling access under the rail line.

Webster St is the 20th level crossing removed by the NWPA team as part of the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal project since 2017, reflecting nearly a decade of work delivering safer crossings and better connections across Melbourne.

We’ve done some seriously heavy lifting at Waterfront Brisbane! 🏗️

Nine jump steel columns now stand above the Waterfront Brisbane site, marking another major milestone for the North Tower podium.

Our team delivered a series of carefully planned lifts to safely install these steel giants, which together weigh more than 430 tonnes and stand up to 25 metres high.

The columns form a key part of the podium structure that will support the next phase of construction.

It's fantastic to see the team's hard work taking shape above ground as Waterfront Brisbane continues to rise!

One of the last major bottlenecks between Sydney and Brisbane is now a thing of the past 🛣️

More than a year ahead of schedule, the John Holland Gamuda joint venture has completed the 10-kilometre Black Hill to Tomago section of the M1 extension to Raymond Terrace.

Together with the recently completed northern section (Heatherbrae Bypass), it creates a seamless 15-kilometre connection for motorists coming off the M1 Pacific Motorway at Black Hill through to Raymond Terrace, taking out one of the last major choke points between Sydney and Brisbane.

As part of our scope, we delivered eight bridges including the sleek 2.6-kilometre viaduct that now stretches across the Hunter River and surrounding floodplain.

The viaduct also passes over the Main North Rail Line and the New England Highway, with the works staged to minimise disruptions to rail and road traffic during construction.

A huge credit to our team and project partners for delivering a critical piece of national transport infrastructure ahead of schedule! 👏

Cairns’ future water security is one step closer! 🚰

Our team on the Cairns Water Security Stage 1 (CWSS1) project has reached a major construction milestone, with several key infrastructure elements now complete as the project moves into pre-commissioning and testing.

Over the past two years, the team has installed 30 kilometres of new pipeline, built a new ultraviolet (UV) treatment building and delivered the project’s 5 megalitre (ML) and 8ML storage reservoirs.

The three-storey administration building is also nearing completion, while pre-commissioning activities, including connecting electricity, are now underway to prepare the infrastructure for testing.

As the largest infrastructure project in Cairns’ history, CWSS1 will help secure the city's future water supply and support a growing population for years to come.

The project includes a new water intake at the Mulgrave River, a new water treatment plant and reservoirs at Gordonvale, as well as supporting infrastructure to connect the new intake to the existing network. It also includes flood resilience upgrades at Council's Behana Creek intake to improve the reliability of the region's water supply.

We’re proud to deliver this nationally significant project for the @cairnscouncil, funded by the Australian and Queensland governments through the National Water Grid.

Three giant TBMs are making Australian tunnelling history! 🚧

All three 15-metre-high, large-scale Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) are now excavating on the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project, marking a major step forward in the construction of South Australia's non-stop South Road.

TBMs Mary, Catherine and Elizabeth are now tunnelling simultaneously beneath Adelaide, making this the first Australian underground road project to have three large-scale TBMs operating at the same time.

The three machines will excavate around five million tonnes of rock and soil, known as spoil, which will be transported by conveyor to the surface before being taken to the Project’s re-use site at Gillman.

A huge achievement for everyone across the T2D Alliance, including our John Holland tunnelling team who helped get these three giants underground and turning! 👏

The T2D Alliance is delivering the Project on behalf of the Australian and South Australian governments.

The new Badu Yarragul Water Resource Recovery Facility at Kemps Creek is officially open! 💧

Delivered on time and on budget for @SydneyWater, the new facility in Sydney‘s west is one of the most advanced water treatment plants in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s capable of treating up to 70 megalitres of wastewater every day, producing high-quality recycled water for homes and businesses across Western Sydney as well as biosolids for agricultural use.

Alongside the recycling centre, our team delivered more than 40 kilometres of treated water and brine pipelines between Wallacia and Lansdowne to help lay the foundations for a future circular economy hub in the region.

The project achieved an industry-first Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) 2.1 rating, supported by a range of sustainability initiatives including a four-megawatt solar farm that will make the facility 50 per cent energy self-sufficient.

It’s a legacy project that will support population and economic growth in Sydney‘s booming west, and a fantastic testament to the industry-leading experience and capabilities of our water team and project partners 👏

Say hello to the new Melton Station! 🚉

A huge milestone for our North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) team, with the new elevated station at Melton in Melbourne’s west now open to passengers.

The official opening followed a busy three-week construction blitz that included removal of the old boom gates at Coburns and Exford roads.

These two sets of gates represent the 19th and 20th removed by the NWPA team as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project (@levelcrossings), while Melton Station is the 11th station delivered by the Alliance.

The new station features four longer platforms to cater for the nine-car VLocity trains that will run on the Line from next year.

It also boasts lift and stair access via a 16-metre-wide underpass, providing safer access and parking for the local community on both sides of the rail line.

The opening of the station is the result of a lot of hard work since construction began, including the removal of the level crossings at Coburns and Exford roads, demolition of the old station and the realignment of rail bridges over both roads.

Our three-week occupation also delivered platform extensions at Cobblebank and Rockbank stations as part of the Melton Line Upgrade, building on earlier extensions at Deer Park and Caroline Springs.

We’re incredibly proud of the works we’ve delivered alongside the Victorian Government and our Alliance partners since 2017, helping remove level crossings, build new stations and improve connections for communities across Melbourne.
