Glenn Palin is the Acting CEO of John Holland while recruitment is underway for a permanent CEO.&nbsp;​Glenn has a long history with John Holland with an association going back more than 30 years,&nbsp;including time spent as CEO, Chief Operating Officer and Executive General Manager, Specialist Businesses. He also holds a position on the John Holland board.&nbsp;​In his spare time Glenn likes working on his motorbike and spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp;

As the self-appointed ‘Financial Engineer’ of John Holland, Chief Financial Officer Darryn Ray is a business stalwart.Well into his third decade with John Holland, Darryn has been instrumental to building an exceptional culture within the business.He describes ‘caring’ as the consistent value underpinning his time here, regardless of the executive and shareholder changes over the years.While responsible for all financial and management reporting, audits, taxation, treasury, investments, corporate governance and insurances, Darryn is most proud to be part of a company at the heart of projects improving the lives of the people in the communities they’re built in.Darryn is amazed by the innovation he sees on all our worksites and likes to remind his friends and family of John Holland’s legacy whenever he gets the chance.An avid walker, cyclist and golfer, Darryn enjoys the 19th hole almost as much as the other eighteen!

Shining a light on the very best of John Holland and looking to our exciting future – that’s what Jayne Whitney prides herself on.With extensive executive experience in the engineering industry, Jayne is at the helm of the teams delivering long term strategy and business growth, IT, digital transformation,&nbsp; corporate affairs and social impact for John Holland, our partners and stakeholders.Jayne’s strategic move to the company in 2018 was equally weighted with the strong values and leadership of CEO Joe Barr, the nation-building infrastructure under the John Holland brand and the fact she didn’t have to drive over the Sydney Harbour Bridge to get to work!She’s proud of the culture of empowerment and forward-thinking at John Holland, brought about by engagement with our people and consistent demonstration of respect for all stakeholders. She also loves being able to point out city-shaping infrastructure to her kids and grandkids, and say “We built that!”A keen gardener and mum to four girls and five dogs, Jayne counts herself lucky to be able to do a variety of tasks and meet a wide range of people in her work.

Sarah Elliott has notched up more than 20 years’ experience in senior roles across the energy, financial services and construction sectors.As John Holland’s Chief People Officer, Sarah likes to think she’s building the people that do the building. With this mission in mind, she brings a warmth and pragmatism to the Executive team in her passion to address key workforce challenges.Ensuring greater diversity and flexibility in the workplace, continuing professional development and addressing the attraction and retention of inspired people at John Holland is front of mind for Sarah.She believes John Holland’s ability to transform lives hinges on the expertise of its people, and has a keen focus on helping people grow and improve through an industry-leading employee experience.Sarah’s driven by supporting the day-to-day operations that are creating positive change in the construction and engineering sectors.Sarah is an avid traveller and overseas explorer, she retains her balance and energy through a regular yoga practice, reading and bushwalking with her family.

Martin is John Holland’s most seasoned negotiator. As Chief Commercial Officer, Martin Webster brings more than 35 years of international infrastructure and construction experience to the business.His technical expertise has helped drive successful outcomes on some of Australia's and Asia's largest building and infrastructure projects.Martin has a sharp commercial focus across tendering, contracts, risk management, earned value and particularly commercial project delivery – coupled with the drive to ensure the safety of the wider team is at the forefront of our decisions.Martin has a keen objective to develop talent within John Holland and see our people given opportunities to grow and maximise their potential by extending their fields of expertise.Since relocating from Hong Kong to Melbourne, Martin has embraced local sporting culture and supports various junior AFL, cricket and rugby union clubs. Martin has a passion for sports cars and vintage cars.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the property and construction industry, David Lehmann knows the value of not only building things – but how those things transform lives and communities.&nbsp;Our Chief Operating Officer, David has strong credentials across various roles in Southeast Asia, Greater China and Australia as well as deep expertise in business strategy, leadership, operational excellence, and large-scale project delivery.He enjoys hearing repeatedly from clients and consultants of the trust imbued in the John Holland brand, driven by the culture of excellence and willingness of our teams to strive for great outcomes on every project.It’s this ability to influence positive outcomes and bring meaningful impact to marginalised sections of the community through employment, training and inclusion that makes every day about transforming lives for David.A dynamic business leader, David is equally at home out on site as he is in the Boardroom or cheering his two daughters on from the sidelines.

Joe has spent 28 years working in building and transport infrastructure and has extensive experience across industrial, retail, commercial, defence and government social infrastructure projects.&nbsp;As John Holland's Executive General Manager of Building and Infrastructure, Joe is focused on the entire lifecycle of building projects and resolving complex design and delivery challenges.&nbsp;Joe is a strong believer in building positive relationships with customers. Through listening and responding to customers' needs, Joe strives to be a trusted partner, find collaborative solutions and leave a positive legacy for communities.&nbsp;When not at work Joe is a passionate motorsports and soccer fan who enjoys spending time with his wife and supporting his two sons' sporting endeavours.

Executive General Manager, Building & Development

If there was a railway gene our Executive General Manager of Rail &amp; Transport, Steve Butcher, would hold a majority stake. Growing up in the UK, where public transport was the lifeline for many communities, Steve’s father was a train driver and his grandfather a locomotive superintendent. It was only a matter of time before Steve joined the ‘family business’ and he started as a station cleaner for British Rail when he was 16 years old.Steve moved up the ladder to roles in train crew, driver management, operational safety accident investigation and Operations Director to eventually become the Chief Operating Officer/Managing Director for Northern Rail and then to a global role with Serco across Dubai, India, the USA and Australia.His passion for making a difference to people’s lives with efficient public transport is key to his role leading the expertise of the Rail &amp; Transport business unit.He loves being involved in transport projects from design phase through to talking to passengers on a train, tram or bus, and hearing how their experiences have been transformed.Outside of work, Steve is a keen walker and swimmer and loves military and railway history.

If you happen to catch Rob on a Zoom call from his home office, you’ll likely see his collection of Welsh rugby figures in the background – a clue to both his heritage and his sporting passion.&nbsp;Rob has worked in large-scale, construction and engineering environments for nearly three decades, holding key leadership, strategy and commercial roles in Australia, New Zealand and the UK – specifically in the roads, water, rail, energy and social infrastructure sectors.&nbsp;He has a deep understanding of the operation of infrastructure projects and businesses, an ability to control risks to deliver successful results, and a keen interest in collaborative contracting (having spent much of his career working in alliances).&nbsp;Rob is especially passionate about developing people within a culture of inclusivity and empowerment.&nbsp;

If his beloved Rotherham United FC is winning, then our Executive General Manager Major Projects, Mark Davies, is having a perfect day.But even out of season, Mark sets a daily objective to aim for a perfect day everyday with his team at John Holland to ensure we are all supported in our roles and feel included, we deliver our customer promise, we deliver our margin and we are all well and safe!He loves being part of the team building public and social infrastructure that improves lives on a day-to-day basis and makes tomorrow a better place.Mark relocated from the UK where he had been leading the 6 billion pound high speed rail contract for the Balfour Beatty Vinci Joint Venture and prior to that was the Managing Director of a major contractors Rail, Major Projects and Highways business unit with over 2000 staff.Mark is proud to work for a company with capability and technical expertise spanning&nbsp; construction, infrastructure and transport services. continuing the journey started by Sir John.Outside work, Mark loves his time with his family and enjoys running, walking and exploring but since his time in Australia has not yet had a chance to continue his other passion of DJ’ing, particular soul music.
