The state-of-the-art development will deliver new, expanded and integrated health facilities for the Shoalhaven region, reducing the need for patients to travel to Wollongong and Sydney.
The $438 million redevelopment will provide new facilities including cardiology, mental health and aged care wards, additional operating theatres, a new emergency department and intensive care unit, as well as greater access to more specialised staff, equipment and technology.
John Holland CEO, Joe Barr, said the project will deliver world-class health and wellbeing services for the region.
“This redevelopment puts our purpose of transforming lives into practice because we know how important modern health facilities are to the local communities who depend on them,” Mr Barr said.
“We’re proud to be partnering with HI and the ISLHD to bring to life their vision for a modern clinical facility that responds to emerging healthcare needs and technologies.”
Jason Vaughan, General Manager – Building NSW/ACT, said John Holland was well placed to build a lasting legacy in healthcare and the local community with a future-ready workforce in place.
“As this project gets underway, we’re committed to fostering local talent, boosting First Nations People participation and employing apprentices – an approach that’s directly supported by the University of Wollongong with our sponsorship of Aboriginal engineering student internships,” Mr Vaughan said.
“Local procurement is a key focus of the John Holland approach, that's why we’re embedding ourselves in the community during construction while engaging local suppliers and tradespeople for this redevelopment.”
Connection to country is a key component of the vision for the Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment. John Holland will support this by working with First Nations artists for project artwork and employing trainees from Local Aboriginal Land Councils to undertake the landscaping around the hospital.
John Holland is due to commence on site in March.
