🚇 Beneath Sydney’s streets, a Metro marvel is taking shape.
Deep under Hunter Street, John Holland and our partners CPB Contractors and Ghella ANZ are helping deliver one of Australia’s most ambitious infrastructure projects: the largest underground rail cavern in the country, built to handle up to 40,000 passengers an hour.
At 28 metres wide and 180 metres long, the Sydney Metro Hunter Street cavern is a true engineering achievement. With heritage buildings, tunnels and vital infrastructure just metres above, our crews are tackling complex challenges with exceptional expertise.
And recently, we hit a MEGAPOUR milestone.
The ETP Hunter Street team was buzzing with excitement ahead of the final concrete pour for the station cavern invert – so much so, they affectionately dubbed it the “MEGAPOUR.”
Over 63 hours, a massive 3,044m³ of concrete was poured continuously, a full shift ahead of schedule, with zero rejections. It’s one of the largest pours ever for Holcim Australia, and a major logistical triumph in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
From pouring over 28,000 tonnes of concrete to shaping the future of Sydney’s transport, every milestone reflects the scale and complexity of this transformative journey with Sydney Metro and our partners – and it’s happening right beneath our feet.
