An efficient, modern hospital.

Joondalup Health Campus Redevelopment

The award-winning Joondalup Health Campus was redeveloped to service the needs of the local community and growing population.

Doubling the size of the campus and future-proofing the redevelopment to allow for further expansions has allowed staff to care for almost double the number of patients and welcome more visitors since 2013.

Undertaken across seven key phases, the $391 million project began with an upgrade to access roads and car parking facilities. The redevelopment then included the construction of a new central plant building, three-level public ward block, state-of-the-art emergency department, private ward block, a St John Ambulance centre, parking for 1,500 cars and a new childcare centre.

During the four-year project, no operations were cancelled, and no patient wards were closed. The team minimised the impact of noise and vibration and maintained access to the existing hospital buildings.
As the redevelopment took place on a brownfield site with many existing live services, our main objective was to avoid disrupting the hospital services. Communication with hospital staff was vital to understand the impacts of construction and prepare for planned outages.
“I would often take a walk around the hospital, and it was a reward in itself to hear feedback from hospital staff and patients. It feels great to know that your work made a huge difference in so many lives.” Project Manager, Jay Whitman.
