More Trains, More Services

The program consists of several packages of work. Next Rail, a partnership between John Holland, Transport for NSW and Jacobs, is currently delivering upgrades to the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line, T8 Airport Line as well as electrical, signalling and overhead wiring upgrades across the wider rail network.

The More Trains, More Services program is designed to deliver a range of benefits for rail customers. The packages of work being delivered by Next Rail focus on:   

• More services for the T8 Airport Line, including an 80 per cent increase at Airport stations 
• A 30 per cent increase in peak services on the T4 Illawarra Line, with extra services from Cronulla, Waterfall and Hurstville 
• More services on the South Coast Line, meaning a service every 15 minutes in the peak and every 30 minutes in the off peak between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD

Infrastructure improvements are being made across the network. These include modifications to track, signalling, overhead wiring, electrical, civil and station platforms. We are also excavating tunnels for cables and drainage, and constructing two new substations in Mascot and Wolli Creek to power more train services along the T8 Airport Line.
