South Australia’s largest ever private hospital.
The landmark Calvary Adelaide Hospital has South Australia’s only privately-owned 24-hour emergency department and is providing patients with premium health care services. This is the largest development in Adelaide’s CBD in 25 years and has helped transform the city.
The $218 million hospital allows specialists and doctors to meet the increased demands from the community with the most comprehensive range of medical services available in South Australia. It provides acute general medical and surgical services with a focus on cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedics and sports medicine, neurosurgery and spinal surgery as well as vascular, bariatric, endoscopy and colonoscopy specialities.
The 12-storey, 350 bed, state-of-the-art facility is 50% larger than the old hospital, enabling doctors to meet clinical demand. The hospital features:
- 344 single-occupancy rooms with ensuite bathrooms, including 20 ICU beds and 66-day surgery beds
- 16 operating theatres
- South Australia’s only privately-owned 24-hour emergency department
- A 15,000 sqm rehabilitation and allied health wing
- A custom-designed hybrid theatre combining an operating theatre and radiology suite to diagnose and treat patients faster
- A rehabilitation wing with a hydrotherapy pool and mobility garden
- Radiology and pathology units and onsite pharmacy and coffee shop.

The project earned the state’s top property honour – the Rider Levett Bucknall South Australian State Development of the Year award in 2021. The hospital was recognised for its tremendous design innovation and adaptability to deliver a hospital purpose built for today and the future.
