A world-class hospital that has redefined paediatric healthcare in Western Australia.

Perth Children’s Hospital

The award-winning Perth Children’s Hospital is one of the most technologically advanced and complex construction projects ever undertaken in Australia and is delivering world-class, patient focused outcomes to the children and parents of Western Australia.

This landmark project replaces the existing Princess Margaret Hospital. We took a human-centred design approach that focused on the needs of the patients, families, health professionals and educators who would be using the hospital. The hospital combines innovation in medical technology, an integrated research and educational facility and Western Australia’s only paediatric trauma facilities, including neonatal and paediatric intensive care units.

The 120,000sqm building comprises four interconnected blocks that extend up to ten storeys over an extensive basement that covers the footprint of the hospital. The 298-bed hospital has 12 multi-use theatres, 75 per cent single rooms with parent beds in each standard room, parent lounges on every floor, green spaces, entertainment facilities and a helicopter landing pad.

The hospital has been recognised with many industry awards for its unique design, management of a complex new medical facility and creating a people-first high quality and captivating environment.
“Medical equipment is diminished in scale through skilled use of a colour palette referencing the colours of spring in adjacent Kings Park. The elongated East-West axis of the building form has been carefully mitigated with a double skin active facade improving air quality and thermal performance, contributing to the high quality social and environmental hospital for children.” AIA WA Architecture Awards 2019
“Extensive research and consultation with a wide range of medical and administrative staff has ensured that this complex and challenging BIM enhanced project includes a high level of art and functionality in addition to an amazing’ wonderland’ for children in need of specialist care – an inspired creation.” AIA WA Architecture Awards 2019
