The new Badu Yarragul Water Resource Recovery Facility at Kemps Creek is now complete! 💧

Delivered on time and on budget for @SydneyWater, the new facility in Sydney‘s west is one of the most advanced water treatment plants in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s capable of treating up to 70 megalitres of wastewater every day, producing high-quality recycled water for homes and businesses across Western Sydney as well as biosolids for agricultural use.

Alongside the recycling centre, our team delivered more than 40 kilometres of treated water and brine pipelines between Wallacia and Lansdowne to help lay the foundations for a future circular economy hub in the region.

The project achieved an industry-first Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) 2.1 rating, supported by a range of sustainability initiatives including a four-megawatt solar farm that will make the facility 50 per cent energy self-sufficient.

It’s a legacy project that will support population and economic growth in Sydney‘s booming west, and a fantastic testament to the industry-leading experience and capabilities of our water team and project partners 👏

Say hello to the new Melton Station! 🚉

A huge milestone for our North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) team, with the new elevated station at Melton in Melbourne’s west now open to passengers.

The official opening followed a busy three-week construction blitz that included removal of the old boom gates at Coburns and Exford roads.

These two sets of gates represent the 19th and 20th removed by the NWPA team as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project (@levelcrossings), while Melton Station is the 11th station delivered by the Alliance.

The new station features four longer platforms to cater for the nine-car VLocity trains that will run on the Line from next year.

It also boasts lift and stair access via a 16-metre-wide underpass, providing safer access and parking for the local community on both sides of the rail line.

The opening of the station is the result of a lot of hard work since construction began, including the removal of the level crossings at Coburns and Exford roads, demolition of the old station and the realignment of rail bridges over both roads.

Our three-week occupation also delivered platform extensions at Cobblebank and Rockbank stations as part of the Melton Line Upgrade, building on earlier extensions at Deer Park and Caroline Springs.

We’re incredibly proud of the works we’ve delivered alongside the Victorian Government and our Alliance partners since 2017, helping remove level crossings, build new stations and improve connections for communities across Melbourne.

It was a big night for our John Holland team at the 2026 #RailIndustryAwards! 🏆

A huge congratulations to Devy Rimba from our North Western Program Alliance team, who took home the Young Rail Professional Award. Since joining John Holland, Devy has quickly built a reputation for finding smart solutions to complex challenges and making a real impact on the projects she works on.

As a joint venture partner in Metro Trains Sydney, we're thrilled to see the team recognised with the Customer Service Excellence Award for maintaining an outstanding 98 per cent customer satisfaction rating.

Seeing the teams behind Metro Tunnel recognised with the Infrastructure Project Excellence Award is a credit to the thousands of people who have helped bring this city-shaping project to life. We're proud of the role our people have played through Cross Yarra Partnership and Rail Network Alliance, alongside VIDA Metro, to deliver a project that is transforming the way people travel around Melbourne.

With several finalists across our teams and Operations and Maintenance joint ventures, it was fantastic to see so many of our people recognised on the night.

Sydney Metro West is continuing to take shape underground 🚇

With tunnelling complete, our team is now focused on the final phase of works across our Sydney Metro West - Eastern Tunnelling Package, progressing the permanent structures that will support the future railway.

Beneath Sydney's CBD, excavation of the 27-metre-deep Hunter Street West shaft at the corner of George and Hunter streets has been completed, with excavation of the East shaft now in its final stages.

Concrete lining is progressing well in the Hunter Street station cavern, which will house the future metro platforms, and in the turnback tunnels that will allow trains to reverse direction and return to Westmead once the line is operational.

At the future Pyrmont Station, the crossover cavern has been lined, while lining works continue in the station cavern and service adits.

In the running tunnels between Pyrmont and Hunter Street, the permanent invert (tunnel floor) has now been poured, with finishing works continuing ahead of the next stage of construction. These tunnels will carry metro trains between the two stations when the line becomes operational.

Building the infrastructure that will transform how freight moves around Australia 🛤️

Our team is making strong progress on Stage 1 of the Beveridge Intermodal Precinct, with piling works for the new rail viaduct nearly complete.

Construction of the in-situ crossheads is now underway, with installation of the Super-T bridge beams set to follow later this month.

We were thrilled to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Federal Member for McEwan Rob Mitchell and National Intermodal CEO James Baulderstone on site to see the progress firsthand.

A key part of the conversation was our focus on creating employment opportunities for the local community, both now and for tomorrow. John Holland is prioritising building capability, supporting local and social enterprise and establishing a last connection between the project and the future Beveridge community, alongside National Intermodal.

Once complete, Stage 1 will provide Melbourne’s first terminal capable of receiving 1,800-metre double-stacked freight trains, delivering direct access to the Inland Rail south network.

Bringing certainty to complex projects through digital engineering 🖥️

Long before the first piece of steel was installed at Sydney's Allianz Stadium, many of the project's biggest decisions had already been tested in the digital world.

By building a 'digital twin' of the stadium, we ran more than one million simulations to test major design and delivery decisions against a detailed client brief and ensure the new venue would integrate seamlessly with the adjacent Sydney Cricket Ground and its operations.

Working through scenarios early allowed potential issues to be identified and resolved sooner, reducing risk and enabling us to deliver the stadium on time and on budget.

The digital twin continues to support how the stadium operates within the broader precinct. It’s another example of how we use digital innovation to bring certainty to complex stadium projects.

Making every drop count 💧

At Sydney Water’s Rouse Hill Water Resource Recovery Facility, our North West Hub Alliance team saved more than 2.5 megalitres of water by using a smarter approach to hydrostatic testing of the new Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs).

And that’s no small saving – it’s enough water to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool!

Rather than drawing additional water from the mains network for each test, the team reused and transferred the same water between structures throughout the testing program, significantly reducing water consumption while meeting the project’s rigorous quality requirements.

Hydrostatic testing is a critical step that confirms the structural integrity and performance of the new infrastructure before it enters service. Over a seven-day period, the MBRs – which will eventually hold around 6.3 megalitres of screened wastewater – were tested under full operating conditions.

And for anyone wondering about the striking blue water, it's not a dye! Hydrated lime was added during testing to help cure and seal the concrete.

The testing marks an important step in the delivery of new treatment infrastructure at Rouse Hill – one of several upgrades our team is delivering as part of the North West Hub Alliance to provide an efficient wastewater system to support Sydney’s growing communities.

From construction to operation, we’re helping bring Sydney Metro Southwest to life 🚆

The Sydenham to Bankstown Metro railway has officially been handed over to Metro Trains Sydney, bringing Sydney Metro Southwest one step closer to welcoming its first passengers.

As part of our Sydenham to Bankstown Southwest Metro conversion joint venture with Laing O'Rourke, we've helped transform the existing rail corridor into a modern metro-ready railway.

Our team leading the project realigned track, upgraded overhead wiring and power systems, converted 11 stations to metro standards, delivered the new Bankstown Metro Station and helped prepare the railway for handover through system verification, integrated testing and final safety compliance activities.

All this work required careful planning in a live rail environment to keep people and services moving.

For John Holland, the journey doesn't stop at handover. Through our Metro Trains Sydney Joint Venture, the team is delivering through running across the full alignment to improve reliability and trial running on the Sydenham to Bankstown section to test a range of operating scenarios.

It's a great example of what we do best: bringing together expertise in project delivery and operations and maintenance to help shape better transport outcomes from day one.
