Delivered by the John Holland Gamuda Joint Venture, the 10-kilometre Black Hill to Tomago section completes a critical piece of infrastructure for the Hunter region and Australia's east coast transport network.
Combined with the recently completed Heatherbrae Bypass, the extension creates a seamless 15-kilometre connection between the M1 Pacific Motorway and Raymond Terrace, providing the ‘missing’ link between Sydney and Brisbane and removing up to 25,000 vehicles per day from key congestion points along the route.
As part of the project scope, our team delivered eight bridges across the project, including a 2.6-kilometre viaduct spanning the Hunter River and surrounding floodplain.
The viaduct crosses the Main North Rail Line and the New England Highway, requiring carefully staged construction to minimise disruption to rail services and road users throughout delivery.
