We’re making real strides in gender equality 💪

We’ve achieved the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation.

Building on our first citation in 2023, it shows we’re heading in the right direction in supporting gender equality and creating a workplace where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.

WGEA recognises businesses who are actively committed to fostering evidence based best practice of gender equality in the workplace.

From pipelines and dams to desalination, water and wastewater treatment, H2O is in our DNA 💧

With more than 300 water projects delivered around Australia in the last two decades alone, we’ve earned the trust of Australia’s biggest water authorities to help secure the country’s water future.

That trust has been built on huge projects like the 270km Wentworth to Broken Hill Pipeline, the Chaffey Dam and spillway near Tamworth, and the Sydney and Gold Coast desalination plants – not to mention the everyday maintenance and upgrade of water and wastewater assets in our biggest cities and regions.

Meet the ancient giant hiding in Lake McDonald! 🐟

During a routine aquatic survey on the Lake McDonald Dam Improvement Project we’re delivering for @seqwater, our team pulled up a fyke net and found themselves eye to eye with a piece of living history.

Staring back at them was a Queensland Lungfish (Neoceratodus forsteri), a species so ancient its lineage stretches back more than 100 million years!

At nearly one metre long and over 19kg, this living fossil has been around since the dinosaurs and now survives in just a few South East Queensland rivers.

After a careful assessment from our team and marine specialists Fishology, the big boy was released back into the water right where it was found.

Ensuring the safety of aquatic species and wildlife is a key priority for our project team. With lake levels temporarily lowered to allow construction to safely take place, our aquatic specialists closely monitor conditions throughout the entire dam, including its tributaries and downstream in Six Mile Creek, to minimise the impact on aquatic life.

The project is also making great strides on site, with the temporary cofferdam completed in preparation for the demolition of the existing dam.

Once complete, the upgraded dam will improve water supply reliability and bolster the dam’s ability to manage extreme weather conditions, helping secure South East Queensland’s water future for generations to come.

Western Sydney’s M12 is officially open! ✅🚗

Ribbon’s cut, engines ready. And a critical new connection to the future Western Sydney International Airport is now a reality.

John Holland is proud to have delivered the M12 East package, linking Elizabeth Drive to the M12 Motorway with around 2km of new motorway.

The works included new entry and exit ramps, key road realignments, utility protection and relocation, active transport infrastructure, and thoughtful urban design features like interpretive signage and landscaping.

We were honoured to mark the moment alongside Federal Infrastructure Minister @Catherine King, NSW Premier Chris Minns, NSW Deputy Premier @Prue Car, and NSW Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison, together with our industry partners and the @M7–M12 Integration Project team.

And there’s more to come! The M7–M12 interchange and M7 widening works will open later this year in another step towards shaping a more connected Western Sydney.

A podium finish at the @ausgp! 🏁

Last weekend was a huge one for our @yarratrams JV and CYP Asset Management Services team, who worked behind the scenes to help hundreds of thousands of people get to and from the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park.

Across the four days, the Yarra Trams team delivered more than 5,000 services to the track, carrying over 440,000 passengers – more than 45% of all racegoers. It’s the busiest period on Melbourne’s tram network, and the team rose to the challenge with professionalism and care.

This year also marked the first time fans could travel via the Metro Tunnel to Anzac Station. Our CYP Asset Management Services team, who will maintain the tunnels and station for the next 23 years, provided additional on‑site support throughout the Grand Prix.

With a focus on hyper care, they helped ensure critical assets like escalators and lifts were running smoothly, to help people move through the station.

We’re proud to have played a role in keeping Melbourne moving during one of the city’s biggest events. A great example of teamwork, planning and commitment making a real difference.

We're incredibly proud to be partnering with Ausgrid to help deliver clean energy to NSW.

We’ll be building two new substations and upgrading existing distribution infrastructure in EnergyCo's Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (HCC REZ), and we recently joined our customer and partners to turn the first sod at the Antiene site, within sight of the former Liddell Power Station.

The new and renewed infrastructure will support future renewable energy generators to supply up to one gigawatt (GW) of clean, affordable energy into the NSW grid.

It’s a classic win-win scenario. Not only will the HCC REZ be contributing to the State’s clean energy future, it will be the first renewable energy zone in Australia to upgrade existing distribution poles and wires, minimising the impact on the community and the environment.

We’ll be bringing our decades of experience in energy and distribution to this important project - starting with the original Snowy hydro scheme in the 60’s, major transmission projects into the 2000s, and, most recently, one of the biggest pumped hydro plants in Australia at Kidston, in outback Queensland.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the women making their mark across our John Holland projects and helping reshape what our industry looks like.

Here’s a glimpse of how we’re celebrating #IWD2026:

♀️ At our Sydney office, we were honoured to host Dr Natalie Galea from the University of Sydney Business school, who spoke about the cultural shift needed to continue to ‘Balance the scales’ and shared strategies to support gender equality. The session was streamed live to our entire business.

♀️ John Holland team members joined business and community leaders at official UN Women Australia events in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, hearing from an extraordinary line-up of leaders, legal experts, advocates and changemakers who are driving real change for women and girls.

♀️ The Construction Collective, a staff-led group championing women within the Level Crossing Removal Project’s North Western Program Alliance (NWPA), invited leadership communication expert Ally Nitschke to share her expertise on having courageous conversations.

♀️ The Illabao to Stockinbingal (I2S) team is hosting a Q&A panel this month with women from the project, local female farmers, business owners, male allies and community leaders sharing their experiences across construction and regional agriculture.

♀️ Our Queensland Train Manufacturing Program project team in Torbanlea is hosting a panel discussion where team members are sharing their personal experiences working in construction and advice on building a more inclusive, gender balanced industry.

Making a difference beyond the rail tracks!

Our team on the Next Rail Alliance, alongside Jacobs and Transport for NSW, is enhancing the T8 Airport and T4 Illawarra and Eastern Suburbs lines as part of the Rail Service Improvement Program (RSIP).

The RSIP, funded by Transport for NSW, is delivering safer, more efficient and reliable train travel while fostering meaningful connections with the local community.

Recently our project team delivered four impactful initiative:

🛠️ Prepared Ashfield’s newest women’s shelter by building furniture, painting, and packing to create a safe and welcoming space.
🤝 Supported 15 skilled immigrant job seekers with mock interviews and confidence-building feedback in partnership with Sydney East Community College.
❤️ Donated blood and plasma through Australian Red Cross Lifeblood saving 21 lives and continuing this life-saving effort.
🌳 Took part in Clean Up Australia Day, helping to preserve Sir Joseph Banks Park for the community to enjoy.
