This transformative road project for Sydney will reduce travel times by up to 40 minutes in the morning peak for motorists travelling from Parramatta to Sydney Airport using the new Sydney motorway network.
The joint venture between John Holland and Seymour Whyte will support more than 4,000 jobs and involves the delivery of two sections:
- The International Terminal and Qantas Drive connection. This is a new high-capacity road connection, linking the Sydney motorway network at St Peters Interchange with Sydney Airport's International Terminal and Qantas Drive.
- Domestic Terminals access that will create an arterial road connection and flyover to Sydney Airport's Domestic Terminals, along with improvements to existing roads towards Port Botany.
Sydney Gateway will have the capacity to carry 100,000 vehicles a day, reducing congestion and improving travel times for all who use the road network. The project will create better active transport options with a new shared cycling and pedestrian path linking Tempe Reserve with the airport terminals.
The team will work in a highly constrained and confined live traffic environments to deliver a total of 5.1 kilometres of arterial road, a 2.7-kilometre active transport link and 21 bridges and viaducts by December 2024.
