A vital high-capacity network to support the growth of our communities.

Sydney Gateway

The toll-free Sydney Gateway road project transformed how Australia’s biggest city moves, cutting up to 40 minutes of travel time in the morning peak for motorists travelling from Parramatta to Sydney Airport.

The $2.6 billion project strengthened Sydney’s position as a global city, returned local roads to local communities, and slashed travel times to and from Sydney Airport's Domestic and International terminals.

Featuring a total of 19 bridges, including one wider than the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and providing a direct connection to the Sydney motorway network at St Peters Interchange, Sydney Gateway streamlined travel for motorists and diverted up to 10,000 trucks a day from local streets.

The project was delivered in two sections:

  1. The International Terminal and Qantas Drive connection: a new high-capacity road connection linking the Sydney motorway network at St Peters Interchange with Sydney Airport's International Terminal and Qantas Drive.
  2. Domestic Terminals access: an arterial road connection and flyover to Sydney Airport's Domestic Terminals, along with improvements to existing roads towards Port Botany.

$2.2 billion of economic activity will be created for businesses supplying goods and services to the project.
This high-capacity network is vital for supporting the growth of our communities, places and economy. It will ensure people and goods can move around our city and beyond, safely and reliably.
