John Holland is proud to be part of the Linewide Alliance – comprising KBR, WSP, Alstom, and RATP Dev –selected by the Victorian Government to deliver the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Linewide package.

This transformative project will deliver a fully-tunnelled 26-kilometer twin-tunnel metro corridor connecting Cheltenham in the south to Box Hill in the north, with six new stations along the way.

The scope of works will span over 10 years of delivery, with John Holland and RATP Dev to operate and maintain the new metro line as part of a 15-year franchise from 2035 to 2050.

The Linewide package includes:

  • Tunnel fitout works
  • Traction power
  • Communications systems
  • Network control and signalling
  • Rolling stock
  • Depot and maintenance facilities
  • Overall system integration, operations and maintenance.

The SRL East will feature six stations, including new interchanges at existing at existing heavy rail stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Glen Waverley and Box Hill, as well as brand new stations at Monash and Burwood.

Drawing on the successful Rail Network Alliance model, the Linewide Alliance will deliver an integrated rolling stock and signalling solution, paired with a best practice operations and maintenance solution.

“This project will transform Melbourne, and we’re proud to bring our long history of successfully delivering major public transport projects across Australia,” John Holland Managing Director – Rail and Transport, Steve Butcher said.

“We will draw on John Holland’s end-to-end expertise to deliver this city-shaping project. Working alongside our Alliance partners, we will provide a world-class, service-proven driverless metro system that sets new benchmarks for comfort, safety, and reliability for Melbourne.”

The Linewide Alliance combines the local expertise of John Holland, KBR, and Alstom – who successfully delivered and launched Australia’s first driverless metro system, Sydney Metro Northwest, in 2019 – with RATP Dev’s global leadership in driverless rail systems and operations and maintenance.
