John Holland to deliver Inland Rail from Illabo to Stockinbingal

🌟 Deep below the ground in central Queensland, we've just reached a major milestone in the delivery of one of Australia’s most significant and complex renewable energy projects.


Working with the finest of tolerances, our team has successfully installed the first spiral case at Kidston, the site of Australia’s first pumped hydro project in over 40 years.



This complex piece of infrastructure is a key part of the underground powerhouse, directing high-pressure water into the turbine. Getting to this point has required enormous coordination, expertise and determination - from the completion of the deep underground excavation just over a year ago to the precision concrete works and heavy cranage.



At John Holland, we pride ourselves on bringing experience, insight and innovation to the most complex of infrastructure challenges, and Kidston is right up there with the best of them.



Next up is the installation of the turbine itself, followed by commissioning and the final drive toward first power. Bring it on!

🚇 Now that's what we call a cavern! Hunter Street cavern excavation complete.

Deep underneath the heart of Sydney's CDB, our Sydney Metro West – Eastern Tunnelling Package team has been busy excavating what will become the Hunter Street station on the Sydney Metro West line.

The cavern is 28-metres wide, 20-metres tall and 180-metres long and will be the largest station cavern in the Sydney Metro system.

We're proud of our part in delivering Australia's biggest public transport network - transforming lives now and for generations to come.

🏗️🎉 The final concrete has been poured at Metro Tunnel's State Library Station!

The team building the Metro Tunnel hit a major milestone recently with the completion of structural concrete elements at State Library Station.

The final pour at A'Beckett Street takes the total amount of concrete poured in the precinct to around 100,000 cubic metres, along with 35,000 tonnes of reinforced steel fixed.

One memorable stage of the structures package was the arch pours within the ‘trinocular’ cavern. Located up to 40 meters beneath Swanston Street, this impressive structure consists of a 220-meter-long platform tunnel, comprising two rail tunnels separated by a central tunnel.

The Metro Tunnel is due for completion later this year.

🚂🚧 Our team delivering the Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury (B2A) Tranche 2 will kick off major works on the project this week with works starting in Euroa. Earlier this week Welcome to Country and smoking ceremonies were held at the Broadford and Euroa sites to mark this milestone.

Working with Inland Rail we’ll draw on our deep expertise in brownfield rail projects when work begins on four bridge replacements, a vehicle underpass, railway track lowers and station modifications to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.

Construction will soon follow at other sites, including the bridge replacements at Broadford and Wandong, a station modification at Benalla and several areas of track lowering, including under the Hume Freeway at Tallarook and Seymour.

As we deliver the project, we’ll focus on continuing our relationship with the local communities to ensure we leave a long-lasting legacy for the region.

Once complete the project will enable the safe operation of double-stacked freight trains across eight B2A Tranche 2 project sites between Wandong and Benalla, helping to transform how goods are moved around Australia, generating opportunities for our regions and our economy, now and in the future.

🏆 Last night Sydney Metro City won Project of the Year at the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia Awards – and we’re proud of the role we played in this city-shaping project.

🚆 Not only is the driverless metro network run by one of our Operations and Maintenance joint ventures – Metro Trains Sydney – with the team supporting testing and commissioning and leading trial running to prepare the network for opening.

🚧 But we also delivered the first rail tunnels under Sydney Harbour for Sydney Metro City, as part of the Tunnelling and Station Excavation joint venture. The huge project, which was delivered ahead of time, tunnelled under Sydney’s CBD to create some of Australia’s most complex underground station structures.

🔧 Our Sydenham Station Junction project undertook complex works to integrate Sydney Metro at Sydenham Station. The team delivered construction to extend Sydenham station, including building a new Sydney Metro concourse and platforms, plus track, signalling, and overhead line work to facilitate the Metro running through the junction.

🏗️ While our Waterloo Station project was the last Design and Construct contract to be awarded along the Sydney Metro city alignment, but it was the first station to successfully reach completion.

Bridging the Gap Between Education and Industry



Last week, we had the privilege of hosting over 100 QUT (Engineering, Architecture and Built Environment) Introduction to Construction Management students for their very first onsite experience!



The students visited two of our iconic projects – Waterfront Brisbane and Mater Hospital Springfield, where they had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the real-world construction environment.



At each site, they were given a comprehensive project overview and guided tours, offering an up-close look at the exciting work our teams are delivering. Their enthusiasm was contagious, with plenty of insightful questions that highlighted their passion and curiosity for all things construction.



With four years of study ahead, we can’t wait to see some of these bright minds returning as Graduate applicants in 2029!



We’re proud to support the next generation of construction professionals and help them kickstart their journey into the industry.

🐰 How does the Easter Bunny cross the railway line at Webster Street?

With the help from our North Western Program Alliance team that's working on removing the level crossing and building a new road underpass for the @levelcrossings removal project of course!

Members of the team helped spread the Easter cheer to local businesses while providing project updates.

Meanwhile our team at nearby Melton provided a drawcard in the local shopping centre, where residents could see how progress is being made on removing their level crossings while enjoying a chocolate treat.
