John Holland CEO Joe Barr said:
"The first thing I want to say is how proud I am of our people for their resilience during this impossibly difficult time. The safety of our people and the community is front of mind for us. At this stage, we believe our projects will be able to remain open and we are working closely with our customers and the State Government to understand impacts.
At a practical level, our business is already well prepared for this escalation in restrictions due to significant changes already made to on-site operations. This includes restricting numbers, additional PPE and masks, deep cleaning, segregated work sections, more site sheds, staggered starts and social distancing.
We want to keep as many of our people safely in work as is possible and will be reviewing our protocols and addressing anything extra we may need in order to meet Government standards by Friday night’s deadline.
We were much heartened by the Premier’s acknowledgement that “construction is the lifeblood of Victoria”. It’s true for thousands of workers, and we will continue to play our part.
I do want to acknowledge that the housing and commercial industry, and much of the supply chain, has been hit pretty hard with these latest announcements. It’s a tough time for the State and our thoughts are with all Victorians as they do what’s required to stay safe.”
