Australia’s leading integrated construction group John Holland is proud to be providing young Indigenous Australians with an opportunity to kickstart their construction careers at the new Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment.
John Holland has partnered with local suppliers and sub-contractors to secure employment for recent graduates of the John Holland SFS Aboriginal Pre-Employment Program (PEP).
The program was created in collaboration with local Aboriginal groups and aims to increase the representation of First Australians in the construction industry by training participants on the Sydney Football Stadium project.
General Manager Building NSW/ ACT - Matthew Bourne, praised the initiative as another demonstration of John Holland’s commitment to reconciliation and ensuring the benefits of Australia’s infrastructure boom are experienced throughout the economy.
“John Holland has a proud history of working with local contractors to help provide opportunities for young Australians from all walks of life,” Mr Bourne said.
“The SFS Aboriginal Pre-Employment Program is an industry-leading initiative that ensures we utilise the unprecedented investment in construction to create jobs and training opportunities.
“By providing unemployed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with core, practical entry level industry skills we hope to open up career pathways they may not have considered such as carpentry, plumbing or electrical apprenticeships.”
PEP candidates received practical, hands-on training over the four-week program including accredited technical skills, safety awareness and employability training.
Candidates receive support from industry mentors while simultaneously assisting our suppliers, providing them with access to a pool of pre-screened job-ready candidates.
We’re thrilled to have partnered with NSW sub-contractors, suppliers and organisations including:
- Fredon Electrical
- Demartin & Gasparini
- Quality Rigging Services (QRS)
- BKH Group
- Axis Plumbing
- Health & Safety Advisory Service (HSAS)
- Global Skills
- Aboriginal Advancement Alliance
- NSW Aboriginal Lands Council VTEC
