John Holland has been awarded a major contract by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to deliver a vital stage of the nation’s new Inland Rail, turbocharging regional communities across Eastern Australia.
The agreement will see John Holland partner with SEE Civil through a new joint-venture, Trans4m Rail, to deliver the 171 kilometre upgrade of rail track between Narrabri and North Star in North West NSW on behalf of ARTC.
Under the contract worth more than $693 million, Trans4m Rail will upgrade a critical section of existing rail to permit greater rail capacity, efficiency and freight movement as part of the 1,7000 kilometre Inland Rail corridor.
The project will provide job opportunities for the local community and extensively utilise local suppliers – helping to strengthen the State’s regional economy.
John Holland’s Executive General Manager – Rail, Steve Butcher said the contract was recognition of John Holland’s long-standing partnership with ARTC throughout regional Australia.
“We are delighted to partner with SEE Civil to deliver this important rail upgrade in country NSW through our new joint-venture Trans4m Rail,” Mr Butcher said.
“John Holland has a long history of partnering with the Commonwealth government to deliver world-class rail infrastructure, criss-crossing regional communities across Australia.”

The 171 kilometre upgrade is an important phase in Inland Rail, which will deliver better and faster freight access for regional producers and manufactures across Eastern Australia.
