Wellington Traction Overhead Systems Renewal

The Wellington Traction Overhead Service Renewals project involved upgrades to the Redwood to Muri Overhead Wiring corridor of the Wellington rail network.

The scope involved the replacement of 48km of traction overhead wire on the North Island Main Trunk, approximately 1000 concrete foundations, replacement of timber traction structures with twin track cantilever support structures, previously never used in New Zealand, and single galvanised steel masts as well as new trenched communications cabling. As part of Stage 2, the team replaced a further 1.2km of traction overhead wire in the NIMT Tunnel No. 1 and 4.3km in the NIMT Tunnel No 2.
