Southbank Education & Training Precinct

Southbank Education and Training Precinct, QLD

Delivered as the first Public Private Partnership with the Queensland Government, the Southbank Education and Training Precinct is one of Australia's premier education facilities.

The four hectare precinct is a vibrant and multi-cultural tertiary education campus designed, constructed, financed and maintained by the PPP over a 34-year period.

John Holland constructed four new buildings, the largest of which was seven storeys, forming the centre-piece of the project and refurbished a further four buildings on the site. The design was based on creating linkages both external to and inside the precinct, encouraging community access to the area and creating an overall vibrant and multicultural campus environment.

The completed precinct, on a four-hectare site located in South Bank, complements the vibrant commercial, cultural and recreational community surrounding the campus. Featuring technologically advanced educational buildings which are energy efficient by way of building and system design, the precinct placed Queensland at the forefront of international education and training.

The project created some 315 jobs during the construction phase, including 176,000 apprentice, trainee and cadet labour and upskilling training hours, which equates to the creation of employment and training opportunities for some 25 apprentices, trainees and cadets per year. In addition, throughout the 30 year maintenance period it will provide ongoing employment for 100 facilities management and support staff.
