Our Diversity


At John Holland we are very proud of the diverse nature of our business and see it as a key element of our success in the industry. We continue to provide a culture within our organisation that reflects our strong values surrounding the importance of diversity.  

Our workplace diversity approach underpins our human resource management strategies with particular attention paid to areas such as planning, selection and recruitment, performance appraisal, training and development, occupational health and safety and workplace relations which are all integrated into our diversity approach with continued success.  

With an increasing number of women in our industry, John Holland is committed to providing ongoing support, encouragement and development opportunities for the women in our organisation. In 2004 we were the first company in our sector to launch paid parental leave for both male and female employees.  

We have also introduced the Workplace English Language and Literacy training program to assist workers with non-English backgrounds.  

Similarly, we have launched the Flexible Futures Initiative, which is being introduced to allow mature employees the option to incorporate flexible working conditions in order to balance their work and other responsibilities.

We have also developed a comprehensive Indigenous Workplace Participation Strategy which will serve as the guide to our Indigenous recruitment and retention. This strategy was created in partnership with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations who support our endeavours and agree with our aspirations. Their premier Indigenous employment program, known as Structured Training and Employment Project (STEP) will form part of our recruitment strategy and has the capacity to increase Indigenous employment markedly across the group in both a measured and sustained fashion.

We seek to have real relationships that are mutually beneficial with Indigenous communities in areas we seek to work in.  We always look to use local people for local jobs to better equip people in the community for wealth creation.
