We have in-house technical capabilities backed by broad experience that allows us to provide smart solutions tailored to the needs of our clients.
Our business recognises that different business drivers and environmental pressures require different solutions. Accordingly, we work with our clients to deliver a variety of solutions within the water management cycle.
Our growing team has extensive experience in all types of contracting methods, including unique industry leading alliances, always working within the John Holland No Harm safety, quality and environmental standards to deliver projects on time, on budget and safely.
John Holland’s Water business fosters longstanding partnerships with our clients, ensuring that we understand their evolving needs and business drivers in achieving environmental license and performance requirements.
Our geographic spread With our head office in Sydney and three regional offices in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, we can provide project management for any type of water or wastewater infrastructure project across Australia.
Our capabilities
Our water capabilities include water treatment, wastewater treatment, desalination, water recycling and reuse, bulk water catchment, as well as water and wastewater transfer and network distribution.
Water Treatment
We have built a national reputation for delivering benchmark potable and industrial process water treatment plants around the country, working with our clients to create unique solutions based on the particular needs of their business. Importantly, whether we are working alongside rivers, dams or estuaries, our water treatment plants are always designed to address the local community needs, meeting or bettering the government-set quality standards that keep Australian community water supplies amongst the best in the world.
Desalination
Desalination allows Australia’s densely-populated coastal cities to improve their water management capabilities and provide an alternate water supply as insurance against drought. Our partnerships with world-leading desalination technology suppliers, combined with our in-house construction, tunnelling and engineering skills, ensure urgent client requirements are met on time and on budget.
Wastewater Treatment
Nutrient removal, odour control and meeting rigorous environmental standards are major concerns for wastewater treatment facilities. Likewise, upgrades to facilities are critical to meeting the demands of growing populations and increasingly stringent environmental requirements. Our innovative engineering and process teams provide tailored solutions that solve plant expansion, effluent quality and odour issues while taking into consideration site space, chemical consumption and budget and timing constraints.
Our dedicated and experienced commissioning team provides expert planning and execution for the seamless commissioning of new works without impacting on current operations.
Water Recycling/Reuse
Recycling is an environmentally friendly solution to the challenges that communities face in maintaining facilities like public gardens and parklands in drought conditions. John Holland’s Water business has contributed significant water recycling infrastructure to communities throughout Australia. Mindful of differing client and community needs, John Holland Water can cater for recycling to Class A, A+, or B quality water. We are able to integrate recycling systems into operating ‘brownfields’ sites or develop new ‘greenfield’ reuse facilities.
Bulk Water Supply
We feature an excellent track record in dam upgrades and improvements. We understand the risks involved in working with and around bulk water, especially the safety and environmental risks presented when upgrading an operating dam. John Holland has experience in concrete, earth and rock fill dams including upgrades to embankments, outlet towers, sealants and spillways.
John Holland’s specialist civil and mechanical expertise allows us to engineer and plan the works with the lowest risk profile, whilst ensuring the highest quality workmanship. We understand the issues in relation to catchment management and improving the quality of runoff, as well as the impacts work can have on a community. Our experience allows us to improve public amenities during the course of project delivery.
Water and Wastewater Transfer & Network Distribution
Moving water with pumping stations and pipelines – especially in and around existing, developed communities – requires special skills. Our quality, safety and environmental procedures ensure we interact with communities in a non-invasive way, providing new infrastructure safely and effectively.
We have built some of the most extensive pipelines and transfer networks in Australia, as well as one of Australia’s largest pumping stations. We have used tunnelling to house unsightly or obstructive pipelines and have built sound-deadening structures to minimise pumping station noise. Micro-tunnelling and trenchless solutions are part of a variety of delivery methods that allow us to provide a customised solution for our clients with minimum impact on the community.
